Ben Stokes succeeds Joe Root as England's Test captain

England have appointed all-rounder Ben Stokes as their Test captain to succeed Joe Root in the job, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Thursday. Root, 31, stepped down earlier this month after England won one of their previous 17 Tests, a run which included a 4-0 Ashes thrashing in Australia and a 1-0 series defeat in West Indies.
